YUCCA MOUNTAIN TRIO PROMOTE THEMSELVES IN VEGAS
DEMOCRACY NOW ASKS DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S CANDIDATE QUESTION TRIO WAS ASKED BY GENERAL ELECTION
Special Report by the Creative Youth News Team

January 16, 2008

Will America be a free country when the next generation gets its chance to vote?  Today, current voters are saying, "Not if General Electric gets its way.."

The first question allowed the Yucca Mountain Trio (John Edwards, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama)  to speak about foreign beneficiaries with which they were invested while being allowed to escape questions regarding their investments.  John Edwards was the worst offender because of his work with the Fortress Group, from which he continues to receive profits from sub prime mortgages and offshore funds.

When Amy Goodman  of Democracy Now questioned Kucinich, he gave solutions and spoke about the relationship between Edwards, Clinton and Obama to these organizations that are undermining the American economy.  To hear the complete debate involving all candidates, go to http://www.democracynow.org/2008/1/16/breaking_the_sound_barrier_democracy_now

During the Las Vegas Promotional, candidates were allowed to lie about their votes  and stated positions on war, international corporations, and energy policy.  There was nobody present to speak truth at the Promotional because all candidates representing the people's interests were excluded.

The Yucca Mountain Candidates used the term "strategic interests" as an excuse for their plans to keep troops in Iraq indefinitely (forever).

Kucinich pointed out the misuse of word games by the Trio to get around their plans to keep troops in Iraq.  Edwards and Clinton have voted for the war and funding .  Obama's record (which includes votes to continue and fund the war) is indistinguishable from Clinton's.  Kucinich' pointed out that his own record establishes Kucinich as the only candidate who opposed the war and  as the only candidate with a viable plan for withdrawal, ending the occupation and protecting the interests of the Iraqi people.

Kucinich noted the extensive use of special interest money by John Edwards, who has pointed fingers at Obama and Clinton and attacked them for doing exactly what Edwards is doing.  Kucinich pointed out the need for Constitutional Amendment for publicly-funded campaigns.  None of the other candidates has mentioned the need for such an Amendment, before or during the promotional.

Edwards, Clinton, and Obama all promised to cut the funding for schools that do not allow military recruiters on campus.  This appears to be a large part of the the reason they were invited as General Electric is a war contractor.  You can't have wars and war profits without recruits.

Kucinich's opposition to military recruiters on school campuses is a large part of the reason he was not invited to the Promotional.  On Democracy Now, Kucinich spoke against allowing Military recruiters on campuses.

The Yucca Mountain Trio were allowed to mislead the public about their plans for Yucca Mountain. In the Senate, Edwards voted Yucca Mountain into existence, and Clinton and Obama backed the funding for Yucca Mountain.  Much of the purpose of the promotional appeared to have been to mislead the Nevada voters into voting for Yucca Mountain candidates while disguising a vote for Edwards, Clinton and Obama as being other than a vote for Yucca Mountain.. The exclusion of the only candidate who had voted against Yucca Mountain and its funding allowed General Electric to mislead the voters about the real positions of candidates on the issue of of Yucca Mountain.  It was pointed out that the Nevada voters wanted candidates who would end Yucca Mountain.  The promotional then gave the Yucca Mountain Trio an out to pretend they would end the project they had voted to bring to completion.  How could a legitimate news organization ask about Yucca Mountain and not take note of the the fact that Edwards voted for the Yucca Mountain Project before and during Bush's term in the Presidency or that the Clinton and Obama had voted to fund the project so that it could be brought into existence?

Kucinich called Edwards on his vote for Yucca Mountain.  He also pointed that General Electric (NBC), the sponsor of the debate, is one of the largest manufacturers of nuclear power plants in the world.  General Electric needs a place to dump its nuclear waste.  Is anyone surprised Kucinich was not allowed to say this during GE's Promotional for its Yucca Mountain Trio?  Only Dennis Kucinich is calling for a carbon-free and nuclear-free energy policy.

John Edwards and Hillary Clinton have shown no concern about the exclusion of candidates from debates.  In fact, they were ones who were caught on camera talking about plans to exclude candidates from debates.

Democratic Chairman Howard Dean has done nothing to promote fair elections and free access to information by voters since he took office.  In 2006, Howard Dean sat silent as voters were harassed and evidence of massive vote tampering in Georgia resulted in a massive number of messages and cries for help to the Democratic National Committee headquarters.  Democratic delegates at the California Democratic Convention in 2007 almost rioted.  They called the Democratic Party leaders Republicans and booed them.

The Democratic Party may find itself the big loser in 2008 if it doesn't wake up and support the voters and democracy.
